Kousou Games - Three Years On

'Twas a dreary night of December when it happened. Thunder struck as Project Q was completed, the creature the staff had spent months on creating, that would live, and Kousou games would never be the same again.

It was a mission to end the disorganisation of the past, to turn the site into a success and make the mad greedy staff rich. In the past three years, we've seen ups and downs, and we've broken our backs on some projects. In multiple places. And after the launch of the new layout, the hundreds of items of content we've added, and the extreme efforts to complete projects we've put in, did we get rich? No. Did we become organised? Put simply, nope. And did we become a success?

We'll have to wait and see. But for the first time in our history, we're actually gaining a fair bit of popularirty from every release we make - the demo for Zelda: Just Beginning, which we had worked on for so long, was greeted by thousands of downloads, and won several awards. The Arcade system we just launched has had hundreds of names submitted to the highscore tables already. Since Project Q was launched we've had around a hundred thousand hits, and enough porn bots registering at the forum to keep us aroused for years*.

This year has been one of our best for content. I'm sure you've noticed that we've now grown to having a huge library of resources, with more sprites and backgrounds and custom music and whatnot than ever, with unique rips such as Atrius' LA dump and emkay's complete overworlds. Not forgetting the now huge amounts of coding examples. Ontop of all this, if you ever have a request, you can ask at the forum and we'll gladly respond.

What you probably didn't know is that during our periods of what may appear as inactivity, we certainly weren't inactive. We've been doing a lot of work on our other projects - The 3D game, possibly one of the most impressive GameMaker games ever, is well in production. Jam, a rather secret project, is around 70% complete. And the hidden parts of the site - the incredible content system we promised, is nearly, nearly done. It really is. You might also be glad to hear that the gameserver is actually up again - and this time, 24/7. Not only will we be running MMOs, but for the two player games, we're working on a matchmaking server, to cut the hastle of typing a friend's IP.

There'll be a lot of releases over the next few weeks - info on games you may or may not know about, plus many more games for the arcade. And much more. For independant resources, development, design, and gaming - stick with Kousou Games.

Here's a list of all our dearly departed:

Reshter (formerly ZeldaGaiden) - Co-founder, web designer.
Alan the pigeon, Trinest, Djcube, Iceman, Sniper Maken - moderators
Smithie - Game Designer.
Valay5 - Programmer
Saviour of Hyrule - Tester
Trank - Music composer
Sol - Head of advertising, writer.
Zoru - Game designer, programmer, awesome spriter, left after his game got cancelled.

See, we honour our dead moderators, that's how cool we are.

* I'm kidding about that last part. Most of it's rubbish.
